Organization History
Indy Homes for Huskies was formed by four women who were independently rescuing huskies in the state of Indiana. They met in 2002 over the internet and began working as a group. One of these women had already established a charitable entity, Paws 4 Peace (EIN 35-2086482). Paws 4 Peace paid the professional fees and accepted donations that came from the efforts of those who now form Indy Homes for Huskies. In 2004, it was decided that Indy Homes for Huskies would form as a non-profit corporation in order to grow and expand. We incorporated in March, 2005 and in January, 2006 began accepting donations and paying professional fees as a public charitable entity.
As Indy Homes for Huskies was growing, more volunteers were added to the group. All dogs are cared for by volunteers in their own homes. Our volunteers provide the essentials such as food, bedding, training and other supplies that their foster dog requires. Fees for veterinary care are paid by the organization. As the organization has grown, we have begun to do our own vaccinations whenever possible.
Indy Homes for Huskies volunteers have shown dogs available for adoption every weekend at local venues since November, 2003. The organization hosts two reunion events and one golf outing every year. In addition the organization takes part in various community events throughout the state to educate the public about responsible pet ownership.
Indy Homes for Huskies is striving to raise funds to rent or build kennel space in order to provide care to even more homeless, neglected, sick or abused animals, to provide an education center to teach about the breeds characteristics and responsible pet ownership, and to help prevent animals from being abandoned, abused, neglected.
